Yamagata (山形市 Yamagata-shi) is the capital city of Yamagata Prefecture located in the Tōhoku region of Japan, As of November 2013, the city had an estimated population of 254,146 and a population density of 666 persons per km². The total area was 381.34 square kilometres (147 sq mi).
