Biei’s Blue Pond is located in Shirogane, Biei-cho, Kamikawa-gun, Hokkaido, at an altitude of about 500 meters on the left bank of the Biei River.
This blue pond was created by chance as part of the construction of a dam to store the volcanic mudflows of Mt. Tokachi for disaster prevention. The blue water and the fantastical scenery of the withered trees made its existence spread by word of mouth, mainly among photographers. Since when, it has been called “Blue Pond” by no one.
