Devil’s Tower is a huge rock located in Wyoming, which means “great plains” in the language of the indigenous people of the western United States, and was designated as the first national monument in the United States in 1906.
Aboriginal legends say that Devil’s Tower was bruised by a giant bear and was used as a landing site for spacecraft in Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
