The Goreme National Park and Rock Sites of Cappadocia in Cappadocia, Turkey was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1985. The appearance of a wide variety of strangely shaped rocks is truly a miraculous sight created by nature. However, we must not forget that this is one of the few World Heritage Sites that is a “multiple World Heritage Site”. In other words, the certification is based on the evaluation of not only the wonderful scenery of nature, but also the cultural heritage created by humans. Man-made objects of universal value were the houses, tunnels, churches, and underground cities carved out of the rock.
